An entertaining game in the Estádio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuan as Sevilla maintained 3rd place with a 3-2 win over Villarreal. Villarreal who had put five past Tenerife last week and another four past Lazio on Thursday looked like getting something from this game.
Luís Fabiano gave the hosts a 9th minute lead which was cancelled out by Robert Pirés, who also scored last week.
David Fuster gave the Yellow Submarine the lead on the hour-mark to silence the crowd. However the crowd were singing again as Luís Fabiano made the most of his chance a minute later.
Five minutes later Frédéric Kanouté put Sevilla back in front. One talking-point was Diego Perotti's corners during the 2nd half in which he was taking them a yard outside the quadrant.
