Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Atlético Madrid

The result that Quique Sánchez Flores did not want in his 1st game in charge of Atlético. Having replaced Abel Resino, Quique Sánchez Flores wanted his troops to secure the three points against an Athletic Bilbao side that are not on top form of late. Javí Martínez's 19th minute strike was enough to secure the three points for the home side. Atlético were in truth slopy in all areas and proberly a fair result.

Osasuna 1-1 Barcelona

Barcelona dropped two points at the Reyno de Navarra after Gerard Piqué was credited with an added time own goal. Barcelona having known Real Madrid beat Getafe 2-0 earlier knew they had to win to maintain the three point lead over their rivals. The goalless 1st half was followed by a 2nd period that saw Barcelona finally take the lead on 72 minutes when Seydou Keita found the net. Osasuna kept themselves together and rellied on and got their reward when Piqué put through his own net late on.

Xerez 0-2 Sevilla

Sevilla maintained the gap between themselves and Real Madrid after recording a 2-0 victory away to Xerez. Xerez came into the game in the drop zone and being on paper at least the weakest side in the league they had nothing to lose. Sevilla meanwhile had their sights firmly on trying to catch both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Having held the Seville side for much of the first half Xerez conceded three minutes before the break when Alvaro Negredo found space to make it 1-0. Xerez then kept Sevilla fustrated at the 1-0 for much of the 2nd period and appeared to be going to a 1-0 defeat until Luis Fabiano made it 2-0 in added time to secure Sevilla vicory.

Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe

Real Madrid put pressure on leaders Barcelona with a 2-0 victory over Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight. Comming into this game Real were three points behind Barcelona at the top of the table. Real Madrid had to deal with a set-back in this game as Raúl Albiol was sent-off just before the half-hour mark.
Getafe have been more than a match for Real in recent years and kept the Madrid all-stars out for much of the game until Gonzalo Higuaín made it 1-0 on 53 minutes. Higuaín then doubled Real's lead three minutes later. The win send Real level on top with Barcelona due to play later away to Osasuna.

La Liga Preview 31st October 2009

La Liga continues this weekend with a cracking Saturday in prospect. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are in action tonight as they look to continue their quests for the La Liga title 2009-10.

Real Madrid v Getafe: 18:00:
A fixture that has been quiet entertaining in the past few years. Last season Real Madrid needed a last gasp winner from Gonzalo Higuaín to secure a 3-2 win to kept them in the title race. Getafe have a Real Madrid Castilla look about them with Roberto Soldado, Daniel Parejo and Miguel Torres in the team.
Real Madrid will be hoping for a positive result tonight to ease the pain on last week's 0-0 stalmate at Gijón and the mid-week debacle of losing 4-0 to Alcorcon. Cristiano Ronaldo is struggling from an ankle injury and is likely to miss out. Coach Pellegrini has questions to answer after a disappointing week.

Osasuna v Barcelona: 20:00:
Barcelona go into this game in Pamplona top of the table by three points and depending on the result of Real Madrid's game they could extend their lead to six points. Having secured Carles Puyol until 2013 Barcelona go into this game with confidence. The season has started well enough and after last week's 6-1 hammering of Real Zaragoza this game could be a tougher test.
Osasuna meanwhile are 10th with 11 points from their 8 games.

Xerez v Sevilla: 20:00:
Sevilla go into this game looking to put last weekend's 0-0 draw with Espanyol behind them and get the three points against a Xerez side in 19th place. Sevilla are currently three points behind Real Madrid in 3rd while six behind Barcelona.

Athletic Bilbao v Atlético Madrid: 22:00:
The final game on Saturday sees Atlético Madrid travel to Athletic Bilbao with three points on their minds. Quique Sánchez Flores having been installed as new coach following Abel Resino's sacking will be wanting no less than three points here tonight.
