Saturday's late game was a thriller as Real Madrid kept pace with Barcelona. A fixture that has early goals in recent times wasn't going to change as Kaká put Real in front after five minutes. Brazilian Marcelo made it 2-0 to Real twenty minutes later as Atlético were starring another defeat in the face. The 2nd half bought some more chances and when Gonzalo Higuaín made it 3-0 to Real the home fans began to boo the Atlético players. Sergio Ramos was sent-off to give Atlético a glimer of hope.
Last year's top scorer Diego Forlán pulled one back for Atlético with eleven minutes remaining before Sergio Aguero made it 3-2 on 81 minutes. But Real Madrid held on for the derby win and stay in touch with Barcelona.
