La Liga resumed business on the weekend with key game but a lack of entertainment.
3rd January 2010:
Espanyol were really unlucky in their trip to Valencia. Carlos Kameni kept David Villa out for the entire game until Nikola Zigic popped up to give Valencia the victory.
Barcelona were disappointing against Villarreal at home and no surprsie a shar of the spoils was on the cards. Pedro Rodríguez, the in-form striker gave the Catalans the lead on 7 minutes before David Fuster leveled five minutes into the 2nd half.
Atlético Madrid finally got the luck they needed as they defeated Sevilla at the Vicente Calderón. Renato gave the visitors the lead on 44 minutes before Atlético fought back with goals from Ivica Dragutinovic, which was a comedy own goal and Antonio López in the final minute. Aldo Duscher was also sent-off.
4th January 2010:
Real Zaragoza ended up with a draw at home to Deportivo. Deportivo may feel disappointed with this result.
Almería needed a 1-0 victory to see off Xerez. But the goal was in the final minute from José Ortíz. Xerez unlucky by this.
Racing Santander made home advantage count as they brushed Tenerife aside. Goals from Gonzalo Colsa and Xisco were enough to secure a 2-0 win.
Francisco Casquero was the hero for Getafe with a goal four minutes from time that secured the 1-0 win against Real Valladolid at home.
Sporting Gijón drew with Málaga in a thrilling 2-2 draw at El Molinón. Goals from Gregory Arnolin and Robert Canella weren't enough to secure a win. Málaga had Duda and Weligton to thank for their well earned point.
Real Mallorca's fantastic season continues as they defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in Palma de Majorca. Júlio Alvárez and Atriz Aduriz with the goals. Aduriz scoring against his former club.
Real Madrid missed the chance to take top spot after they were held to a draw away to Osasuna.
